The fourth place contestant of the fifth season of American Idol Chris Daughtry and company are back, going back to the history of the American musician Chris Daughtry gained fame on the popular American TV show “American Idol” he was given a record deal by RCA records then he formed the band. Their self-titled album “Daughtry” released in 2006 became the fastest selling debut rock album in Nielsen Soundscan History (Nielsen is the official method of tracking sales of music and videos throughout the united states and Canada) selling more than four millions copies, saying this Daughtry has become one of the most successful bands in the united states in recent years despite being a former member of the always controversial TV show American Idol. Undoubtedly Chris Daughtry has a lot of “feeling” when sings the songs, a powerful voice, an excellent technique and wide vocal range really few singers can show off it. Released on November 19, 2013 Daughtry’s Baptized it’s the fourth studio album of the North Carolina post-grunge rockers, wait a minute did I say Post-Grunge? Forget everything you’ve ever heard about the band before, any infectious song, powerful chorus, inspirational quotes behind each song filled of melody and catchy guitar riffs, they’ve have left behind those heart-breakers songs and those fast drum tempos who were perfect for the cure of loneliness. Daughtry’s Baptized marks the beginning of a new era and sadly the weakest and softest record of the year and why not? A very disappointing record on “Baptized” the band found out a very comfortable place each song follows the same line, owing a very soft side the band failed trying to evolve and this is probably the main reason why most of the times you don’t get what you were looking for, there is always a risk. I’m not against electronic stuff at all even I love electronic music through its different sub-genres but the worst part about Daughtry’s Baptized is how they forgot everything about pedals, guitars and distortions also Chris Daughtry’s voice sounds corny and mellow, the new sound is filled of electro-pop songs without sense and particular direction. The lyrics say nothing and everything at the same time “save her now it’s too late now, she’s waiting for superman” (the first single) these last lines are probably the most remarkable moment, while digging up the album you realize everything it’s just the same, sounds boring and mellow all the time. The band makes an effort and tries to show off a different sound “Long Live Rock &Roll” uses a banjo and brings you back the sound of Bon Jovi, Lynyrd Skynyrd, John Denver and stuff like that, In certain songs the band uses keyboards, piano and Synths. I’ve been listening to the new record for hours and I still don’t dig it, I just don’t get it anything. I loved the feeling and vibe from their first records but this new one is not a good record at all and honestly I'm not sure if the music industry still needs these sorts of ventures, I always support the fact that certain musicians try to evolve, refreshing the music scene and giving new airwaves but Daughtry has failed definitely, it’s like they would have met Train, One Republic, Momford and Sons and Maroon 5 one night drinking too much and stepping away from its original sound forever. Overall Baptized it’s exclusively for the fans even though a few loyal ones will be disappointed, Daughtry it’s a mainstream act and I’m sure they will gain a lot of radio air-play on commercial stations as always, top 40 stations, Pop stations, teenage magazines and related stuff.

El cuarto lugar de la quinta temporada de American Idol Chris Daughtry y compañía están de vuelta, yendo un poco hacia la historia del músico Chris Daughtry gano fama en el popular show de TV American Idol obteniendo un contrato discográfico con RCA Records después el formo la banda. Su álbum debut homónimo “Daughtry” lanzado en 2006 se convirtió rápidamente en el álbum rock mas vendido en la historia de Nielsen Soundscan (Nielsen es organismo oficial que monitorea ventas de discos en U.S.A y Canada) vendiendo cuatro millones de copias, diciendo esto Daughtry se ha convertido en una de las mas exitosas bandas estadounidenses en años recientes, a pesar de ser un ex miembro  del siempre controversial show de TV. Indudablemente Chris Daughtry tiene mucho “feeling” al cantar, una poderosa voz, excelente técnica y amplio rango vocal que pocos cantantes pueden presumir. Lanzado el 19 de noviembre de 2013 Baptized de Daughtry es el cuarto álbum de la banda Post-Grunge, Alternativa originaria de Carolina del Norte, pero esperen un momento dije Post-Grunge? Olvidemos todo lo que hemos escuchado de Daughtry, cualquier cancion pegajosa, coros infecciosos, frases inspiradoras detrás de cada cancion llena de melodía. Ellos han dejado atrás esas canciones rompe-corazones y rapidos cambios de batería que eran perfectas para la cura de la tristeza. Baptized de Daughtry marca un nuevo comienzo en la carrera de la banda y penosamente el mas flojo y suave disco de todo el año y porque no? Un disco realmente decepcionante, en “Baptized” el grupo encontró un lugar comodo donde cada cancion sigue prácticamente la misma línea que posee un lado suave, la banda fallo al intentar evolucionar y esta es la principal razón de porque muchas veces al intentar “evolucionar” no siempre obtienes el resultado deseado, siempre habrá un riesgo. Para nada estoy en contra de la música electrónica al contrario siempre ha sido fan de incluso muchos de sus sub-generos pero la peor parte de Batized es como Daughtry se olvido de las guitarras distorsionadas además la voz de Chris suena cursi y melosa, el nuevo sonido esta lleno de canciones “electro-pop” sin ningún sentido y dirección en particular. Las letras dicen todo y nada al mismo tiempo “salvala ahora es demasiado tarde, ella esta esperando a superman” (primer sencillo del disco) y probablemente uno de los pocos momentos destacados, mientras te sumerges en el álbum te das cuenta que todo es prácticamente lo mismo suena meloso y aburrido. La banda hace un esfuerzo e intenta presumir un sonido mas nuevo con “Long Live Rock & Roll” usando a banjo y trayéndote de vuelta el sonido de Bon Jovi, Lynyrd Skynyrd, John Denver, en ciertas canciones utilizan teclados y sintetizadores. He estado escuchando el nuevo disco por horas y simplemente no entiendo, no lo comprendo. Me encanto la vibra y el feeling de sus primeros trabajos pero este ultimo para nada es un buen disco y no estoy seguro de si la industria musical aun necesite de esta clase de experimentos, yo siempre apoyo el hecho de que ciertos músicos intenten evolucionar, refresquen y den nuevos aires pero Daughtry no lo ha hecho definitavemente, es como si ellos hubieran conocido a Train, One Republic, Momford and Sons y Maroon 5 una noche bebiendo demasiado y alejándose por completo de su sonido original. En resumen “Baptized” es única y exclusivamente para fans aunque incluso algunos se sentiran decepcionados, Daughtry es una banda muy comercial y estoy seguro ganaran como siempre mucha rotación en radios pops comerciales, de top 40, revistas musicales para adolescentes y todo lo relacionado a eso.

A Perfect Circle - Three Sixty - Album Review

Including A Perfect Circle’s new song in 9 years titled “by and down”, “Three Sixty” it’s a greatest hits compilation released on November 19, 2013. After having sporadic presentations in recent years under the name of A Perfect Circle mastermind Maynard James Keenan takes a break from his other parallel projects (Puscifer, Tool) just at the end of the year to release a decent greatest hits compilation. All those who have been involved into A Perfect Circle’s music since the very beginning have noticed the band has an undoubtedly and unique talent, infectious rhythm leading you just to that final frontier between melodic and dark sound also Maynard’s voice is simply amazing putting a distinctive sound since his early years with Tool influencing so many singers and rock bands all over the world. Hardcore fans of this project have been craving new music for years the band went into Hiatus In 2004 with members working on other projects, despite having suffered a reformation with some line-up changes since that year there has been some of confusion about when will the band release new music. Three Sixty includes probably the strongest and the most beautiful songs of the band, noticing this is a “greatest hits” compilation, I’m sure that must of you are wondering why two or three songs are not featured on the disc but like I said it’s a greatest hits compilation and there will always be discussion of which songs must be there and which ones not. The compilation includes the band’s most successful hits such as “3 Libras“ “Judith“ “the hollow“  off the band’s first record “Mer de noms” also singles from their last full length studio album “thirteen step” “weak and powerless” the outsider” and “blue”, as a fan I highly recommend getting the two discs version to dive into the record so much more in order to listen to several cuts from the band “people are people” and live versions of “gravity” or “3 Libras” also Maynard’s version of the John Lennon classic “Imagine” from the 2004’s Emotive covers record and of course the new one “By and Down”. There have been some clues during this 2013 and It’s probably that Tool will go back to the studio sometime next year as part of the follow up’s 2006 10,000 days last Tool’s studio album nevertheless A Perfect Circle’s “Three Sixty” serves up to mollify fans who have been waiting new music for years, the band is also about to release a box-set titled A Perfect Circle Live: Featuring Stone and Echo which includes a DVD and Three Cd’s seeing the light on November, 26. A Perfect Circle is a guarantee of what super-groups are able to do pointing out to a top notch tendency as of result of why we still have supreme rock bands in the 21^st century.

Despues de tener esporádicas presentaciones en años recientes bajo el nombre de A Perfect Circle el cerebro Maynard James Keenan toma un receso de sus otros proyectos paralelos (Puscifer, Tool) justo al final del año para lanzar una decente compilación de grandes éxitos. Todo aquellos conocedores de la música de A Perfect Circle desde sus inicios han notado el innegable y único talento, ritmo infeccioso, llevándote a esa frontera entre el sonido melódico y oscuro además de la sorprendente voz de Maynard James Keenan poniendo su distintivo sonido desde sus inicios con Tool influyendo a muchos cantantes y bandas de rock en todo el mundo. Los fans mas hardcore de este proyecto hemos estado anhelando música nueva por años, la banda hizo un hiatus en su carrera con miembros trabajando en otros proyectos, a pesar de haber sufrido una reformación en su alineación desde ese año ha habido algo de confusión sobre cuando la banda lanzara nueva música. “Three Sixty” incluye probablemente las mas fuertes y bellas canciones canciones de la banda, notando que este es un “Greatest Hits”, estoy seguro que muchos se están preguntando porque dos o tres canciones no están contenidas en el disco pero como ya dije es un greatest hits y siempre habrá debate sobre cuales canciones deben estar y cuales no. La compílacion incluye los mas grandes éxitos de la banda como “3 libras” “Judith” “the hollow” del primer larga duración de la banda “Mer De Noms” tambien sencillos de su ultimo disco de estudio “”thirteen step” como “weak and powerless” “the outsider” y “blue”, como fan yo recomiendo ampliamente obtener la versión doble con 2 discos para sumergirte aun mas en el grupo con el fin de escuchar algunas rarezas como “people are people” y versiones en vivo de “gravity” o “3 libras” tambien la versión de Imagine original de John Lennon en la voz de Maynard del disco de covers “Emotive” de 2004 y por supuesto la nueva “by and down”. Ha habido algunas pistas durante este 2013 y es probable que “Tool” regrese al estudio en algun momento en 2014 como parte de la continuación de 10,000 days ultimo álbum de Tool de 2006, sin embargo “Three Sixty” de A Perfect Circle sirve para calmar las ansias de los fans quienes hemos estado esperando nueva música por años; la banda tambien esta próxima a lanzar el “box-set” “A Perfect Circle Live: Featuring Stone and Echo” la cual incluye un DVD y tres discos que vera la luz en noviembre 26, 2013. A Perfect Circle es garantía de lo que un super-grupo es capaz de hacer apuntando a una tendencia de primer nivel de porque todavía existen bandas supremas a inicios del siglo XXI.

The Letter Black - Rebuild - Album Review

Formerly known as breaking the Silence, Pennsylvania Christian Rockers “The Letter Black” have just released “Rebuild” on November 12” their second studio album, after months of hard work, push-backs and debating some ideas the band give us a pretty good album raising the white flag in the name of god and the Christian newcomers. Being a member of the Christian mainstream scene is fairly common nowadays; sometimes those who are believers have to face some detractors, skeptics or unbelievers in the genre just because they are a Christian rock band, or a Christian metal band. Anyway despite of beliefs, genre, race, ideology music is music and I have seen how so many Christian bands around into the circuit have made their own name in the music scene most of the times going beyond the frontiers, getting fame and success, sharing stage with some others “Non-Christian acts” saying this I can say I truly believe in the Christian scene there are good bands and bad bands as any other genre. “Rebuild” is enjoyable at the first listen the first single for the new album “Sick Charade” is an example of how “The Letter Black” maintains the same hard rock sound formula, heavy riffs and powerful voices who made their debut album “Hanging on by a thread” a stand out album. A notable aspect in “Rebuild” is how the lead vocalist Sarah Anthony and her husband lead guitarist and vocalist Mark Anthony sing along together at the same time, aside Sarah reaches a decent vocal range while screaming in certain parts of each song. Other capable songs are “Break Out”, the ballad “Found” and “Smothering Walls” Signed to Tooth and Nails record the band often plays about 150 shows or more a year, sharing stage with bans such as “Skillet” “Red” “Love and Death” among others at the end of the day “Rebuild” is an enjoyable experience for a pretty young band that is still growing and marking their own adventure outstanding among other Christian rock-metal acts.

Anteriormente conocidos como breaking the silence, Originarios de Pennsylvania “The Letter Black” acaban de lanzar “Rebuild” el 12 de noviembre, su segundo album de estudio, después de meses de trabajo duro, retrasos y debatir algunas ideas, la banda nos entrega un buen álbum levantando la bandera blanca en el nombre de dios y la escena rock cristiana. Ser parte de la escena cristiana es bastante común estos días, a veces aquellos creyentes tienen que enfrentar ciertos detractores, escépticos o no creyentes solo porque estas bandas son cristianas. De cualquier manera pese a creencias, genero, raza o ideología la música es música y he visto como muchas bandas cristianas en el circuito han hecho su propio nombre en la escena musical muchas veces yendo mas alla de las fronteras obteniendo fama y éxito, compartiendo escenario con algunos otros grupos “no cristianos” diciendo esto puedo decir que creo fuertemente en la escena cristiana, hay bandas buenas y hay banda malas como en cualquier otro género. “Rebuild” es disfrutable a la primera escucha el primer single “Sick Charade” es un ejemplo de como “The Letter Black” mantiene la misma fórmula rockera, riffs pesados y voces poderosas que hicieron de “Hanging on by a thread” su primer larga duración un álbum destacable. Un aspecto notable en “Rebuild” es como la vocalista Sarah Anthony y su esposo Mark Anthony (guitarra y segunda voz) cantan al mismo tiempo, además Sarah alcanza un rango vocal bastante decente mientras grita en ciertas partes de cada cancion. Otras canciones destacables son “Break Out”, la balada “Found” y “Smothering Walls”. Firmados con Tooth and Nail records, tocando 150 shows al año o mas compartiendo escenario con “Skillet”, “Red” y “Love and Death” entre otros al final del día “Rebuild” es una experiencia disfrutable para una joven banda que esta en crecimiento, trabajando duro y marcando su propia aventura destacando entre otros actos Cristianos de la actualidad.

Scarlett Seven - Scarlett Seven - Album review

Does anyone know if there is a guarantee of fame and success if you’re the little sister of a famous singer who is part of band with a worldwide recognition like Evanescence? The landscape of rock & roll music changes daily with several bands trying to take off and get the attention that they are looking for, “Scarlett’s Seven” album debut released on Halloween’s eve and formed in 2012 hailing from Nashville, Tennessee “Scarlett Seven” consists of two lead singers Colleen Francis and Lori Lee (yeah Amy Lee’s Sister) Austin Decker- Lead Guitar, Nick Veno on Drums, Theo Halls (Bass), Mamie Adams (Keys) and finally Andrew Malone complete the line-up as a rhythm guitarist. The band manages to offer a mix between distorted guitars, ethereal piano and dark elements in certain songs providing you some good expectations about what the band is able to do during the 7 seven tracks. 

The voice always the voice well at first listen I had had some good expectations but after hearing the voice during “Static” the band failed to impress me I realized it’s just another generic and honeyed voice coming out from a female fronted band, surrounded of weak arrangements, for example bass guitar sounds repetitive in certain songs the same happens with the voice even when both female singers are singing. My favorite track (and probably its best offer was “ Virtual Reality”) after all this is not a bad record as a whole I just didn’t like the fact that the band has not found its own identity yet, very necessary in the music business when sometimes you just discover copies of copies of copies, clones of some other bands. During certain parts of their first self-titled record “Scarlett Seven” the band sounds like Paramore, very similar in fact, I’ve never been a fan of Paramore less fan of the Hayley’s voice, plus sometimes you can’t get noticed which of the both singers are you listening to either Lori or Colleen it looks like both singers were singing into the same vocal range saying this the album tends to sound boring just in the middle of the journey. You can find out other similitudes now giving you reminiscences of Evanescence specifically during the song “Falling Down” sometimes looking like Amy Lee was the special guest during the song playing piano and singing along. These type of bands need to grow up and need to be more focused on what are their limitations and expectations if they are looking for a notch place into the mainstream scene, after the final track the band’s lack of identity, weak arrangements and similitude with the likes of Paramore, Flyleaf or some other bands is very notorious, let’s see what the future holds for the band’s career, nothing happens if you don’t buy this record. 

Alguien sabe si hay una garantía de fama y éxito si tú eres la hermana menor de una cantante quien es parte de una banda reconocida mundialmente como Evanescence? El panorama del rock & roll cambia día con día con muchas bandas intentando despegar y obtener la atención que están buscando, formados. El álbum debut de Scarlett Seven lanzado en la víspera de Halloween y formados en 2012 en Nashville, Tennessee “Scarlett Seven” consiste de dos vocalistas Colleen Francis y Lori Lee (Si la hermana menor de Amy Lee) Austin Decker – guitarra, Nick Veno en la batería, Theo Halls en el bajo, Mamie Adams – Teclado y finalmente Andrew Malone completa la alineación como guitarrista rítmico. La banda se las arregla para ofrecer una mezcla de guitarras distorsionadas, piano y ciertos elementos dark en algunas canciones dando buenas expectativas sobre lo que viene más delante durante los 7 tracks. 

La voz siempre la voz, bien si a la primera escucha había tenido algunas buenas expectativas pero después de escuchar “Static” la banda queda a deber y no me impresiona, me doy cuenta esta es otra voz melosa y genérica saliendo de una voz femenina, rodeada de arreglos un tanto débiles por ejemplo el bajo y la guitarra suenan muy repetitivos en ciertas canciones, lo mismo pasa con la voz incluso cuando las dos vocalistas cantan. Mi canción favorita (y probablemente su mejor corte) fue “Virtual Reality” después de todo este no es disco del todo malo pero a mí solo no me gusto el hecho de que el grupo aun no encuentra su propia identidad, muy necesaria en la escena musical cuando a veces solo encuentras copias de copias de copias, clones de otras bandas. Durante ciertas partes de su primer disco homónimo “Scarlett Seven” la banda suena a Paramore, muy parecidos de hecho, nunca he sido un fan de Paramore menos de la voz de Hayley, además de esto hay veces que no te das cuenta cuál de las 2 vocalistas del grupo está cantando o si es Lori o Colleen pareciendo como si ambas vocalistas estuvieran en el mismo rango vocal, diciendo esto el álbum tiende a sonar aburrido a la mitad del camino. Puedes descubrir muchas similitudes ahora dando reminiscencias a Evanescence específicamente durante la canción “Falling Down” a veces parece como si Amy lee hubiera sido la invitada especial cantando y tocando el piano. Este tipo de agrupaciones necesitan crecer y necesitan estar más enfocadas en cuáles son sus limitaciones y expectativas si es que están buscando un sitio de primera en la escena comercial, después de la última canción la falta de identidad de la banda, arreglos débiles y el parecido a grupos como Paramore, FlyLeaf  o algunos otros es muy notorio. Veamos qué es lo que el futuro tiene para la banda, mientras no pasa  nada si no adquieres este disco.

Emphatic - Another Life - Album Review

Having suffered several line-up changes since its formation, Emphatic’s 3^rd full length album was finally released on October, 22, 2013 reaching Top 40 active rock and mainstream rock charts with the single “Remember Me”. Omaha, NE rockers have now re-built the band hiring new members, formed in 2005 by songwriter and lead guitarist Justin McCain, he has joined forces with former front man of platinum selling band “Fuel” Toryn Green on vocals, actor/musician Jesse Saint (Scum of the earth/The Autumn Offering) on bass, and Bill Hudson formerly on Cellador as a second guitarist. Emphatic has grown musically and lyrically although the new line-up consist of 5 experimented musicians, the Omaha based Hard Rock act is fairly new into the musical scene, their last album “Damage” of 2011 was praised by critics and now “Another Life” in my personal opinion it’s just a perfect example of how this band is one of the most promising hard rock acts in the U.S. 

The new album provides a successful and appealing dose of rock hits full of attitude, melody, strong riffs, and an infectious voice thanks to the versatility of new singer Toryn Green giving a new approach to the band’s talent. “Another Life” gets your attention at first listen “Lie After Anger” impress you of what Toryn Green singer is able to do while listening to the first song, the following song “Time is running out” is simply amazing and one of the best off the new record even this one could be chosen as a second single, a lot of intensity a very addictive song that puts you in the mood of I want more Emphatic, also this one is probably Emphatic’s trademark sound. While diving into the record with “The Choice” and the ballad “Louder than love” the band puts you into the highest level offering its best version and sound. Dealing with uncertain times after the exit of the past 3 members, Emphatic has brought back a reformed line-up having reached a top notch sound, giving new airwaves getting ready for the major leagues into the rock & roll mainstream scene, overall “Another Life” is the sound of the upcoming winter season, the band will gain a lot of radio airplay and a bunch of new fans as well, “Another Life” is definitely a must have record for any listener-lover of the hard rock scene.

 Luego de haber sufrido algunos cambios de alineación desde su formación, el 3er larga duración de Emphatic fue finalmente lanzado el 22 de octubre, alcanzando el Top 40 de las listas Active Rock y Mainstream Rock con el sencillo “Remember Me”. Originarios de Omaha, Nebraska el reformado grupo formado en 2005 por el guitarrista/compositor Justin McCain, ahora ha unido fuerzas con el ex vocalista de la banda “Fuel” Toryn Green, el actor/músico Jeese Saint(Scum of the Earth/The Autumn Offering) en el bajo y Bill Hudson ex Cellador como segundo guitarrista. Emphatic ha crecido musicalmente y líricamente, aunque la nueva alineación consiste de 5 experimentados músicos, el grupo de Nebraska es bastante nuevo en la escena musical, su anterior trabajo “Damage” fue alabado por la crítica y ahora con “Another Life” en mi opinión personal es el perfecto ejemplo de como este grupo es uno de los más prometedores de la escena actual. 

El nuevo álbum provee una exitosa formula y adictiva dosis de rock hits llenos de actitud, melodía, fuertes riffs y una infecciosa voz gracias a la versatilidad del nuevo vocalista Toryn Green dándole un nuevo enfoque al talento de la banda. “Another Life” capta tu atención a la primera “Lie After Anger” te impresiona y te acerca a lo que el vocal es capaz de hacer mientras escuchas la primera canción, la siguiente canción “Time Is Running Out” es simplemente increíble y una de las mejores del disco que incluso podría ser seleccionada como 2do sencillo, una canción muy adictiva y con mucha intensidad que te pone en el humor de quiero escuchar más de Emphatic. Conforme avanza el disco con “The Choice” y la balada “Louder Than Love” la banda te pone dentro del nivel más alto ofreciendo su mejor versión de sí mismos.
